Fees and Services

The old adage “you get what you pay for” holds particularly true when it comes to hiring an attorney to defend a Michigan DUI/OWI drunk driving charge.

While many attorneys portray themselves as competent in OWI defense, the truth of the matter is that competency coupled with experience is what matters most; and there are very few defense attorneys who have the extensive trial experience and courtroom skills necessary to develop successful defense strategies in difficult OWI cases.

As one of Michigan’s top rated OWI defense attorneys, Edward Earl Duke, president and founder of Duke Law Group, has over three decades of experience representing hundreds of clients facing serious drunk or drugged driving charges.

When you consult with him you can count on a candid and realistic discussion of the anticipated attorney fees and costs associated with building a winning defense in your case. You will be provided a reasonable approximation of attorney fees and costs, either a flat fee or hourly fee estimate, depending on the particular circumstances of your case.

Flat Fees

Most cases are handled on a flat-fee basis. A flat-fee means the client is charged a single fee for all professional services provided to defend the charge through a certain stage. For example, there may be a minimum flat fee for the attorney to handle a client’s case up to the point of going to trial. Another estimate may be provided if it is necessary for the attorney to file pretrial motions and conduct evidentiary hearings in an effort to have the court suppress evidence or dismiss certain charges. Since the cost of defending drunk or drugged driving prosecutions differs depending on the unique circumstances of an individual case, it is important to consult with an experienced attorney about the particulars of your situation in order to receive a realistic fee estimate. At Duke Law Group, once your case is reviewed and you decide that a flat fee is the correct way you wish to proceed, you will be provided with an estimate based on the unique circumstances of your case.

Hourly Fees

Some cases require that clients be billed on an hourly basis, in which case the client is billed each month for the number of hours the defense attorney devotes to the case during that month. The circumstances of some cases demand a significant number of hours will be spent on administrative proceedings, extensive pre-trial discovery, and/or motion practice. It may be that in these situations, an hourly fee arrangement is the most appropriate method of billing. In the final analysis, it’s up to the client to decide which attorney fees schedule and payment option work best.

Payment Options

Duke Law Group accepts payment for their attorney fees by cash, checks, Visa, Discover and MasterCard. Terms of payment will always be explained, discussed and reduced to writing at the conclusion of the initial engagement. The client always receives a copy of the signed engagement agreement as well as additional valuable information regarding the nature of the representation.
